About Your Midwife
Hi! I'm Jessie Maddock, Licensed and Certified Professional Midwife serving Watertown, WI and the surrounding area! I was born and raised in Illinois and relocated to Wisconsin after completing my undergraduate degree. I received my direct-entry midwifery education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College while attending in-person clinic days/births with a variety of licensed midwives in the Madison and Southwestern regions of WI. Through my training, I developed a deeper sense of gratitude and passion for midwifery care because I feel that it truly honors the duality of the experience-the biological processes alongside the profound emotional and mental shifts. Being a midwife means being 'with woman,' and I find immense purpose in holding space for that transformation; it's at the heart of what I do.
Becoming Mainstay Midwifery LLC...
During my sophomore year of college, I had to get serious about what I wanted to do with my science degree. I was interested in nursing, or maybe teaching. So, I asked a local hospital if I could shadow on their labor and delivery unit. They graciously allowed me to shadow L&D and the NICU. I ultimately enjoyed my shadowing experience and getting to watch my first live birth, but I could not ignore the bleak energy of the environment and some of the staff. I acknowledge that my perception may have been skewed based on my limited exposure to the "birth world", the specific staff that day, and/or the layout of that specific unit. However, I had learned to trust my gut, so I began researching alternative philosophies/practices of healthcare that support women and families through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum in a way that felt more nurturing, personalized, and evidence-based. When I shadowed with a local midwife, I felt like I had found a treasure. Seriously. I enrolled in midwifery school shortly thereafter where that same midwife became my first preceptor for the clinical portion of my training. My passion grew as I continued to learn new skills and work with all kinds of amazing families during my clinical placement.
Mainstay Midwifery LLC is a tangible expression of my passion for midwifery and gives me the opportunity to serve my community.
